Will You Be One Who Never Forgets?

written by Sheryl Shaffer

This month marks the anniversary of September 11, 2001, the day the twin towers in New York City were attacked and destroyed by America’s enemies. Over 3,000 people gave their lives in the fiery inferno that was once their workplace.

In the short lifetime of most young people, few have witnessed the reality of an enemy attacking our beloved United States of America. When it has ever happened, there has always been a group of brave, sacrificing, young Americans who rose up to fight and defend this homeland that we enjoy and love. They are called soldiers!

Yes, there were some who “did their duty” just to have a paycheck. But there have been plenty of others who did it for love of country and in defense of the freedoms that have made our country what she has been.

Young person….please don’t take for granted what you have in America! Please don’t be piggish about your “rights” nor demanding of what you think you deserve. It if were not for the soldiers who have fought, died, sacrificed limbs, eyesight, and quality of their remaining life to fight in defense of what we have come to enjoy, you would not have the privilege of being “piggish” now.

Don’t let yourself ever forget that someone paid a big price so that you could have the freedom that you have come to expect.

Train yourself to show respect to the old men who paved the way and taught the younger soldiers the value of sacrificing for the country we love.

You….are the new generation of Americans. Un-plug yourself from all that might distract you and be one who never forgets that someone, somewhere paid a price so you could live in freedom and prosperity.

It’s time for you to protect the blessing …..for the next generation.
